Wye Valley walk: Coleford/ Lower Redbrook

The Wye Valley always seems to be deserted when I walk there. Today we did see a small group – the sort of people I associate with the long-established Ramblers group: hardy, well-equipped, appropriately addressed, senior and led by a cheerful, never-say-die leader! We walked this section of the beautiful Wye Valley starting at the … Continue reading / view photos Wye Valley walk: Coleford/ Lower Redbrook

Forest of Dean walk

It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the Forest of Dean. It’s lovely to return and stay with my long-time friend, Dave. This was a short but thoroughly enjoyable walk in the Forest. It has changed in the past few years. The boars are more plentiful and digging up the paths. Despite that, … Continue reading / view photos Forest of Dean walk

Aston Rowant hike

Not so much a hike as a Bank Holiday Monday stroll. But a very pleasant one, made all the better because of the beautiful woods and bluebells. I found the walk on the Chilterns website. The walk is known as the Aston Rowant Discovery Trail. Full details of my route are mapped here. View photos Aston Rowant hike

Cotswolds – fields of gold

What a treat to spend Easter Sunday hiking in the deserted eastern part of the Cotswolds. The golden yellow of the rapeseed fields was harmoniously complemented by the cloudless blue sky. It was a fairly gentle walk full of features associated with the Cotswolds and the English countryside: luscious green rolling hills, streams, farms, plenty … Continue reading / view photos Cotswolds – fields of gold

The Custard Factory

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on. John F Kennedy I’m not sure what the connection with JFK is but there’s a large mosaic mural of him on the way to The Custard Factory, a colourful corner of Birmingham. It’s full of an eclectic mix of shops and … Continue reading / view photos The Custard Factory

Chihuly at Kew Gardens

From now until October 2019, you can see the stunning glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly at Kew Gardens. The photos don’t do the sculptures justice. I wonder how they managed to transport all these fragile sculptures around the world and put them up in various positions around the Gardens. The cherry blossom trees and tulips … Continue reading / view photos Chihuly at Kew Gardens

Creating this Website – Part 3: Customising a theme

Potsdamer Platz

The area we were staying turned out to be one of the places artists congregated. So we took the opportunity of our final half day to look at some of the architecture. We also saw some of the original Berlin Wall at Potsdamer Platz. View photos Potsdamer Platz

Berlinische Galerie and Mauerpark

For our final full day, we went to the modern Berlinische Galerie and the fleamarket at Mauerpark, which had lots of old camera equipment for sale from East Germany. View photos Berlinische Galerie and Mauerpark

Stasi Museum

The Stasi Museum is in what was the headquarters of the Ministry of State Security (better known as the Stasi). So you get to see the offices of the head and others. There are photos of the offices in use and they have a good resemblance to the offices now. So they have been preserved … Continue reading / view photos Stasi Museum
