The Berlin train to Kraków was about seven hours.
My accommodation was about 10 minutes walk according to Google Maps. When I got there, I couldn’t find the place! Contrary to the booking website, there was no front desk for the address. It wasn’t a hotel!
To get into the building, there was a QR code but following the instructions didn’t help.
Eventually, I called the contact number. The accommodation was in fact a room in rented accommodation. I should have received instructions for getting into the building — a front door code and another code to unlock the key safe. Once in, all was well. The room was nice; it had a fridge and cooking hob.
I’ve noticed on this trip, self-check-in is becoming increasingly common, whether it’s booked on a hotel website or Airbnb. Usually, you’re sent a code or two to get into the building and room.
Kraków’s main square, was on the other side of the station, about 25 minutes away. It was a lovely evening for a walk.
On the way to the square, a saw a man in a kilt playing the bagpipes! I also passed the shopping centre attached to my arrival train station. This would be handy for food shopping.

I wondered around the town centre to get an initial feel for the city. The square was filled with tourists but there was a relaxing feel to the town. The few Poles I spoke to were helpful and friendly. It was my first time in Poland.
