After visiting two palaces, I wanted to see two districts known for their character.
Ikseondong has lots of small alley ways with cute shops. I enjoyed getting lost in the maze of restaurants and shops.
Insadong struck me as the creative quarter. There were antique shops but a lot of newer art shops and galleries too.
On my first full day, I’d gone to Myeongdong. It didn’t leave an impression on me. It was a shopping district. However, after visiting two palaces, Ikseondong and Insadong, I continued walking to Myeongdong night market. It turns out the shopping district by day (which stays open in the evening too) was expanded with lots of market stalls, selling mostly food. It was much more lively.
