The Art Institute of Chicago is the second largest art museum in the US, after the humongous Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan.
The Art Institute has everything from African art to Textiles. You could spend days there. I spent so long in the many galleries that, with about 90 minutes to closing time, I realised I hadn’t seen the collections that the museum is most famous for: the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. I hot-footed it to their location through the labyrinthine corridors, guided by a couple of staff members. The collections, apparently, are some of the finest outside of France. There are many famous artists on display, including Monet, Renoir, Matisse and Van Gogh. It’s one of the best art museums I’ve been to.
I’ve included some of my favourite photos below but there are too many so I’ve limited myself.
