Cromford, Holmbridge and Buxton

Last year we went to Cromford in the Peak District. We liked it so much we decided to return to the area. This year we stayed further north, in Hombridge, just outside the Peak District.

On the way to our accommodation, we popped into Cromford. We repeated our short walk along the canal before returning to Scarthin Books, now one of our favourite cafe bookshops, for lunch. After our tasty soup, we headed for Holmbridge.

The view from our cottage was this reservoir.

The weather over the long weekend was weird. The first walk we did started fine. It then got sunny. As we started ascending towards Millstone Rocks, we were hit by hailstones! Within minutes, the hailstones stopped and it started snowing! This was the walk: part 1 and part 2 (my recording app stopped recording).

The following morning, I made a quinoa/oat porridge sprinkled with seeds and blueberries. (For the weekend, I ended up doing all the cooking whilst Cath and Helene relaxed. I made tarka daal (red lentils with sprinkled spiced onions) on one night, a simple chilli basil pasta for another, and finally, a roasted tofu/tenderstem broccoli dish with a miso garlic chilli sauce served with basmati rice.)

The cottage we stayed in had many walks straight from the front door. So, after breakfast, we headed for one of the nearby reservoirs for a walk. The path was surprisingly popular and we met several friendly locals.

For our return journey home, we stopped in Buxton, first for a walk in Buxton Country Park then for lunch. The first two places we tried to eat were fully booked. We ended up in a place called Chokra, which was good. They had vegan cakes too.
