On each of my two trips to India, I went to a zoo. The first in Mysore and the second in Darjeeling. I wrote at the time about my mixed feelings.
So it was surprising that I found myself at London Zoo. Helene had been wanting to go there for a while. I had gone as a child and described the pleasure in my Mysore post.
We went to one of the zoo’s evening openings. It was busy and there were mostly adults.
The zoo was well organised. I especially liked the amphibians.

Of course, the zoo had its fair share of mammals too. They had spacious enclosures. The zoo now does more conservation work. I don’t know what this means in practice.

London Zoo has diversified. Away from the animals, there was an area filled with food stalls. As the sun went down, a band played. The area had a festival feel to it.
